Thank you for supporting the MBTS S.C.R.A.P! Art Gala and Live Auction, which took place on May 23rd at the Georgetown Yacht Club.
The MBTS S.C.R.A.P! Art Gala and Auction was a school-wide fund-raising project focused on environmental stewardship and inspired upcycling. The Gala Evening featured a thrilling live auction of “scrap” art collaborated upon by children and some of Cayman’s most prominent and creative local artists:
-Betty Ann Christian Gayle
-Shane “Dready” Aquart
The Gala also featured a Silent Auction, which highlighted local products and services that incorporate eco-friendly or nature-based materials or themes. CLICK HERE to view a list of all live auction and silent auction artists and donors.
The MBTS S.C.R.A.P! live auction was led by dynamic volunteer auctioneers and MBTS community members Mike Cansell and Chad Pollard. Their energetic efforts as auctioneers and the gleeful generosity and support of the audience led to a significant amount of funds raised to support the Parents’ Guild’s school enhancement projects. This year, the Guild is focused on making significant contributions to MBTS’ literacy program and resources, by significantly improving classroom libraries and resource collections. To complement this effort, part of the proceeds from this evening will also go to the school’s charity partner, LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone).
The the fantastic ambience, delicious canapes and fine wines provided by the Georgetown Yacht Club rounded out a truly enjoyable and wonderful evening.
Montessori By The Sea would like to especially thank the following for helping make MBTS S.C.R.A.P! a success:
– Every student and teacher at MBTS, for putting such care and effort into creating and presenting inspired works of art to share with the community.
– Each of the community artists who personally shared their time and talent with the children of MBTS.
– The Parents’ Guild as a whole for sponsoring and executing the event. Your generosity and time are deeply appreciated, and make MBTS the wonderful community that it is.

Thank you for supporting the MBTS S.C.R.A.P! Art Gala and Live Auction and coming together to celebrate the creativity and resourcefulness of our community!
On May 23rd, art will once again take centre stage as the MBTS Parents’ Guild hosts a very special Gala Evening and Auction celebrating S.C.R.A.P. (Socially-Conscious Recycled Art Project)! S.C.R.A.P! is a school-wide project focused on environmental stewardship and inspired upcycling. The Gala Evening will offer a thrilling live auction of “scrap” art collaborated upon by children and some of Cayman’s most creative and prominent local artists:
-Shane “Dready” Aquart
-Betty Christian Gayle
-Mary McTaggart Yates
Each of these renowned community artists will be heading a special, collaborative project with one of the classes at MBTS. They will work with and alongside the children to create stunning, one-of-a-kind art pieces that incorporate recycled and nature-based materials. Already, several artists have begun on their projects with the children at MBTS. Check out some of the photos of Kaitlyn Elphinstone and Karoly Szucs during their introductory sessions with the Casa and LEU classes:
The evening will also feature an exciting, new Silent Auction highlighting local products and services that incorporate recycled, eco-friendly/nature-based materials or themes. If you are creative, crafty or are a master upcycler, or own a local business, get some great exposure by contributing to MBTS S.C.R.A.P! The Silent Auction will feature the finest of Cayman’s homegrown products, arts and crafts and services. Contact email@example.com to get involved, or CLICK HERE for more information on how to donate!
All proceeds raised during the Gala Evening and the Live Auction directly fund school enrichment and enhancement programs spearheaded by the MBTS Parents’ Guild. In the past, Guild funds have been used to purchase computers and tablets for classroom use, to refurbish the school playground, to provide resources and training for a dedicated Learning Support program, and to fund environmental projects. This year, the Guild is focused on making significant contributions to MBTS’ literacy program and resources. Complementing the school’s charity partnership with LIFE (Literacy Is For Everyone), the Guild Gala Evening & Live Auction aims to deepen and improve access to a wider, richer range of literature, by significantly improving classroom libraries and resource collections at MBTS.
We cannot wait for this amazing evening of creativity, community and care for the environment! Mark your calendars now and join the entire MBTS community on May 23rd to celebrate S.C.R.A.P!
