Everyone has settled back in, and Term 2 is in full swing. This is the term to “get our heads down and concentrate and focus and get the job done” as before we know, it will be Term 3! This month we are learning about Life: Fish and Birds. So far we have had fun learning the parts of a fish, the life cycle of a salmon and all the wonderful fish we can find around the world and in our own crystal clear Cayman waters!

We also have a new member of our Casa 2 community, a classroom pet called Tallulah Blue. We are sure the children have talked about her and you might have noticed that she is the center piece of our snack table. The children are enjoying learning the responsibilities of having a pet, and she is the talk of the snack table!

Our continent of focus is Asia and we are celebrating Chinese New Year, “Gong Xi Fa Cai”! We will be cooking an Asian dish and trying to use chopsticks to eat with. Our culture shelf is over flowing with Asian artifacts but if you have anything at home that you want to share with us, please send it in for Show and Tell on Friday.

We have also learned about our very special public holiday – National Heroes Day and what a hero is. There were some amusing stories about family members being heroes!

Our annual MBTS Christmas concert was a huge success, with all of the Casa children singing their holiday hits!

We have been busy creating lots of fun Christmas crafts and tree ornaments for the upcoming Holiday Break…the Christmas spirit is in full swing in Casa 2!

Our continent of focus is Africa so if you have any books or items from Africa, please send them in for us to talk about.

We are also starting our beach walks! These short excursions are a fun way to explore the environment beyond our classroom and playground, and serve several purposes:

1. To prepare children for other excursions, such as our upcoming field trip to the museum.
2. To collect beautiful and interesting shells, rocks and other natural artifacts.
3. Beach clean-up! To help foster environmental awareness and responsible stewardship of our planet, we may occasionally go to the beach for the purpose of removing debris/trash washed up on shore.
4. Theme-related investigation. We may go to the beach to further our investigations of our theme.
5. Fresh air and exercise!

We are looking forward to our first field trip on November 10th to the Cayman Islands National Museum. Please ensure you return your contact information for the day slip to us.

Just a reminder that there is no school on November 11th due to the Private School Association Conference and November 14th, as it is Remembrance Day. Enjoy your long weekend!

Our theme of study for October is “Planet Earth”. We will be looking at “The Birth of the Earth, “Land, Water & Weather” and “Furious Forces”.  The kids will have a chance to learn about different climates, various land/water formations and natural disasters!

We will also be doing a broad overview of the seven continents.  We will look at different countries landmarks, languages, customs and animals.  Everyone will also get a chance to make and taste food from different countries!

Finally, we will be exploring and learning about the Cayman Islands!  The kids will learn about the discovery, history and geography of the three islands.  They will get a chance to explore some local flora/fauna and make some “local” art!

We are looking forward to a fun and busy month in Casa 2 in October!

We are so excited for this upcoming month and we look forward to seeing all of the new and familiar little faces in our class!

The beginning part of the month will be spent introducing our new Casa students to their new school environment, classroom routines/rules and learning how to maintain the beauty and safety of the class and school. Our returning/older students will be focusing on their role as classroom leaders and are encouraged to help the new/younger students to settle in.
Our theme this month is “Me & My Family”. We will be working on self portraits and each child will create their own Family Tree!
We are looking forward to a wonderful month in Casa 2!

This month we are focusing on Music; the Science of Sound, Musical Instruments & Genres of Music.  We have already done some artwork while listening to different types of music to emote our feelings through art.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled month in Casa 2 and we hope that everyone has a terrific summer!

During the month of April we have been celebrating our Earth and how we can keep it healthy for many years to come.  The children have learned about endangered species, air pollution, water conservation, and all of the ways we can help out. We have discussed lowering the a/c, composting and turning the water off while we brush our teeth. The kids are excited about everything they have learned these past few weeks, and can’t wait to try it out at home!

February has flown by, and the children have been hard at work.  We have had a productive month & have been learning about the atmosphere, solar system & its surroundings.

We look forward to March & the continuation of our theme as we delve more in-depth into the planets  & make a solar system of our own!

This month, we have also been celebrating some cultural holidays, doing some special Chinese New Year activities last week, and a Valentine’s celebration (with lots of red, pink and white!!) this week!  Thank you to everyone who brought in some yummy treats to share with all of our friends!

We look forward to yet another wonderful and productive month in Casa 2!
