This month children from Grades 1-8 have been developing a wide range of skills needed for field hockey. Field hockey is a very fast game and it contributes to good eye/hand coordination and peripheral vision. We are having a lot of fun, especially now that most of the classes have a good grasp of the basic skills needed, and we have moved on to playing some mini games.
Grade 7 and 8 have also been improving their fitness and endurance levels by taking part in different running challenges set for them each week. They will attempt their first ‘Beep’ test (to test their fitness level) on Wed 20th Oct. Best of luck to all those taking part.

The year has gotten of to a wonderful start!
In September, I always take the opportunity to use the month to get the children prepared for what’s to come in PE for the rest of the year – exercise through fun activites :-).
This month, all new students are introduced to the concepts of fair play and sportsmanship and all returning students are reminded of the significance of these concepts in our PE classes.
At present, each grade is taking part in a ‘Games’ unit. I have found this is extremely helpful in getting the children used to working together as a group again and reminds them of how they should act, play and speak to one another. It also gives them lots of ideas for lunchtime activities.
During each PE session, your child will complete one or more games in each of the following areas: Tag Games, Relay Games, Cooperative Games and Team Games. The children can see that exercise and keeping healthy can be fun. While taking part in the different games I show the children how to organise themselves into groups and how they can adapt these games to suit either play at school or at home. The children learn different ways to come to a compromise about who chooses the games or how to pick teams fairly without leaving anyone out. All these games improve fitness levels, team work , tactical awareness, direction, timing, agility, and coordination. They also teach the importance of cooperation and some games emphasize participation, challenge and fun rather than defeating someone. The games vary and suit children of all fitness levels, so fun is had by all.
At the Elementary and Middle Years levels, some students are still showing up for class in their school uniform. Please make sure your child comes to school on PE days wearing his/her PE uniform, trainers, water bottle, hat and rain jacket.
Please remember if you are interested in coaching football or have any PE/ School sport questions visit me in my office located in the staff shack or email me; ms.karen@mbts.ky

Welcome back everyone! :-)
The CUC football league is fast approaching.
There will be a meeting on Thursday 9th Sept @ 7 pm @ the school in the Lower Elementary Downstairs classroom. This is mandatory for the parents of all children taking part in the CUC football league to attend. Please remember U9 team must be under 9 before March 1st and U 11 before July 1st.
Football training will commence this Saturday September 4th 8 am- 9.30 am in the First Baptist field, to get our boys and girls in shape.
This training is for those playing in U9 and U11 league (Grade 2 upwards ONLY.)
Information on training for the younger children (Casa Yr2, Kinder and Grade 1) will come in the following weeks.
Please ensure your child has plenty of water, wears sunscreen, hat, cleats/football boots and shin guards.
It is a good idea to send your child with a snack.
I am also looking for some volunteers to help out with mid week training for the U9 and U11 and also eventually training for our younger children.
Please pop me an email if you feel you can help.
