Leaf Turning

To “turn over a new leaf” is to make a resolution or to begin again. At the beginning of the year, each student made a few resolutions. Many include:
• to stop biting finger nails
• to eat healthier
• to keep bedrooms tidy
• to stay active
These are only a few of the resolutions from the Upper Elementary classroom and we think there are many more to think about over the next few weeks!

Rules Rule

Country quizzes are crucial in the Montessori life style. At this point in time, the main country projects are the Six’s government projects. The Sixth Grade students must pinpoint the whereabouts of their chosen country and, also, explain how the government of that country works. This will be displayed in an essay format.

Music Madness

This month we’ll be taken back to the times when great composers were making their marks on this world. Grades Five, Six and Seven are going to be the students that will teach us about these influential people. Each student will present in their own creative way. In each visual presentation there will be old ways, new ways, funny ways, cool ways and some that will just blow your mind! Old composers such as Beethoven and modern composers such as John Williams will be brought to life by the Upper Elementary students.

Fairytale Fantasy

For our school assembly this month, we will be presenting a twisted fairly tale called “Little Late Riding Hood”. In this in this version, Little Late Riding Hood and her little sister Bella Blue have monkey troubles created by the little Tricky Monkeys (who have replaced the original “Big Bad Wolf”) desire to steal the yummy banana nut bread. As always though, good triumphs over evil and Granny gets her treats after all!

Hi! My name is Zoe. I’m from Upper Elementary and lately, we have been pretty busy! The Fourth Graders have been learning all about Biomes of the World; Fifth Graders are learning about Negative Numbers and the Sixth Graders have been working on the Binomial Square. We’ve also been practicing our creative writing.  Here’s an example from one of our Fourth Graders:

Our Little Classroom By The Sea

Our little classroom by the sea, is as perfect as perfect can be.

We work hard every day and when work time is done, we go out to play.

The sea is blue, the sand is white and everything is beautiful within my sight.

We have fun every day and when work time is done, we go out to play.
