In celebration of this great composer’s birthday, we listened to ‘The Four Seasons – Spring’. Composed in 1723, The Four Seasons is Vivaldi’s best-known work, and is among the most popular pieces of Baroque Music. “La primavera” (Spring) is concerto number 1, and it has several themes. The form of the piece uses the elements of nature to portray the coming of spring. This is the form of the song:

Trees, birds, trees, river, trees, thunder and lighting, trees, sun, trees, sun, and trees.

We used scarves to show how beautiful and fun this piece is.

We chose the following colours to be each theme: Green – Trees, Red – Birds, Blue – River, Yellow – Lightning, Orange/Pink – Sun.

“Where words fail, music speaks”

In the Casa class, we marched to ‘Introduction et marche royale du lion’ (Introduction and Royal March of the Lion), and we swam to ‘Le cygne’ (The Swan). We have been using scarves through creative movement, and they look beautiful!

In Lower Elementary, we moved as Donkeys, and strutted as ‘Poules et coqs’ (Hens and Roosters). We even learned to waltz in  ’L’éléphant’ (The Elephant).

We will soon be Kangaroos, Tortoises, and even Fossils!

Students in our class worked hard doing chores around their own homes, and their friends, family, and neighbors homes, to raise money for the Red Cross to help rebuild Haiti after the earthquake.

Some students even held bake sales, popsicle sales, and lemonade stands to raise even more money.

You should all be very proud for reaching out for a neighboring country in it’s time of need – bravo everyone!

She brought in enough delicious fresh fruit for everyone in the class to make their very own fruit kebab. The Year Threes came inside early and helped with the chopping and preparations. When everyone came inside, Electra gave her presentation, and then we all had the chance to make our very own fruit kebab. They were delicious.

Starting this month, we will be having show-and-tell weekly. We hope this will help those children who sometimes are disappointed when they forget their show-and-tell. Please follow the guidelines very carefully, and only send items that are on the list.

Our continent focus this month is Africa.

“The greatest education in the world is watching the masters at work” – Michael Jackson

Kindergarteners are beginning their Animal Projects today. They will read and write about their animal of choice and will report to the class on details such as diet, habitat and anatomy.

We have some new caterpillar friends in our class! If anyone has a chella mella tree in their yard some leaves would be much appreciated by our picky bugs.

As always, our students are working away on fun tasks that challenge and stimulate them. This month many students have had exciting “break-throughs” in reading, counting, understanding the decimal system, word construction, pin-pricking, sewing, and much more. Don’t forget to glance at our “I’m Proud of My Work!” board to see paper work that the children choose to put up.
