Dress Blue for Autism Awareness

March 30, 2012 is World Autism Awareness Day, and the students and staff showed their participation by wearing blue.

Autism is a general term used to describe a group of complex developmental brain disorders – autism spectrum disorders – caused by a combination of genes and environmental influences.

  • A new case of autism is diagnosed every 15 minutes
  • More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes, and cancer combined.
  • Is it estimated that 1% of the world’s population is affected by autism, or 70 million people.

Thank you students and staff for showing your awareness for autism. The fund collected will go to the Special Needs Foundation of Cayman.

A Big Song and Dance!

Six of our students were involved in the Cayman Festival of The Arts, which took place at Pedro St. James last month. These students had the opportunity to sing with over 350 students from other primary and secondary schools around Cayman. It was directed by rewound composer and conductor Ronald Corp. He is Artistic Director of the New London Orchestra and New London Children’s Choir, and Musical Director of the London Chorus and Highgate Choral Society.  He has appeared in all the main London venues, at major festivals around the UK and in tours overseas.

We sang several songs that the students really enjoyed. We also had the oppourtunity for Mr Corp to come to Montessori By The Sea to work with our students! It was so much fun and it was a great chance to meet with Mr Corp on such an intimate level. Thank you to the students and parents involved, it was a great show and I can’t wait for the next one in 2014!

Canadian Brass Concert

As you know, the Elementary and Middle Years Students had the opportunity to see the Canadian Brass Ensemble in February. The concert at First Baptist was amazing, and the students were so excited to see real live musicians playing their brass instruments. We heard the tuba, trombone, trumpet, and my favourite, the French horn. I think most of the students’ favourite was the ‘Bull and Toreador’ piece!
