February – March Lesson Themes

We hope that all families are enjoying the February break!

February has been a very exciting month, especially with the Grade 3 students of both LEU and LED hosting their very first school assembly! The assembly featured three skits and a song, all focusing on the value of honesty. The students were in charge of the entire process, from voting on their preferred topics or values for the assembly, to organizing roles and duties, to writing scripts for actors and hosts, and finally rehearsing for the assembly. The result was an original presentation, made for children by children.

All of the LEU students continue to work on their Europe projects, which were begun in mid-January. All of the different projects are approaching completion, and we are planning on compiling some of them into a class newspaper about Europe! Exciting articles include biographical features on Henry VIII and Leonardo Da Vinci, investigative articles on Pompeii and the Eiffel Tower, as well as travel articles on various countries. The writing, editing and organizing of these projects was a great way for the children to practice skills in finding useful information, rewriting facts into original sentences, and organizing paragraphs. Many of the children have also been studying investigative writing and answering the five Ws, and conceptualizing their own questions to serve as a research outline proved to be a challenging but highly useful learning experience. Having freedom in their choice of topic also enabled them to pursue an interesting subject with zeal and independence.

We look forward to returning from the February break full of zeal and energy. Along with other members of the MBTS teaching community, both Ms. Kristina and Ms. Denise will be attending the Annual International Conference of the Learning Disabilities Association of America in Chicago, from February 22nd – 25th. We are all excited to learn and listen, and bring back rich resources that will benefit the entire school community.

SO LONG, LOUIS: We are so sad to bid one of our beloved students goodbye: Louis has moved with his family to the exciting city of New York! Everyone in class will miss Louis, who was such a bright and joyful member of our class. While it makes us all so sad to see him go, we wish him all the best in his new home and at his new school! The students cannot wait to begin writing their letters to Louis once they return from the break in February.

ADIEU, ABI: We also bid adieu to Abi, who became a part of the LEU family during her month-long visit from France. We will miss Abi’s gentle and friendly manner, and her exemplary work ethic. She made many friends in class, and will be missed dearly!
