Welcome to LEU!

With the optimism, freshness and energy of a new school year, we welcome students and families to the Lower Elementary Upstairs (LEU) class at Montessori By The Sea!

The 2012-2013 school year promises to be one of joyful discovery, fearless exploration and boundless growth. We cannot wait to begin working with the children, who will surely be full of enthusiasm, energy and imagination after a restful summer holiday.

We welcome back all of our returning second and third-year students, and warmly welcome our new first-year students!

Please mark your calendars: This year’s Parent Orientation Evening will be taking place on Wednesday, September 26th, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. and all LEU families are cordially invited to attend. We will begin the evening with a Lower Elementary Program overview for all Lower Elementary parents in both LEU and LED classrooms. After this, parents will continue to the LEU classroom for an opportunity to discuss more specific information about daily routines and procedures in LEU. This evening will be a useful and valuable opportunity to better understand your child’s classroom, to ask any questions about the curriculum and the program, and to also connect with teachers and other parents in the school community. Families who are new to the Lower Elementary Program are especially encouraged to join us for this evening.

We both eagerly anticipate the beginning of another wonderful year and look forward to working with you and your child over the next ten months!

See you on Monday!

Best regards,

Ms. Denise and Ms. Sarah

ABOUT THE LEU TEACHERS:

Sarah Palmer
I am a History of Art and Design Graduate from England. After university I spent two years travelling and working all sorts of part-time jobs until I went back to University to complete my Post Graduate Certificate in Education. I spent my first newly qualified year teaching in a very challenging primary school in Darlington, England. I then made the exciting move to Cayman in October last year. I had a great year teaching in MBTS’s Toddler classroom but I’m looking forward to putting my teaching degree to good use with Ms. Denise in Lower Elementary Upstairs!

Denise Orosa
As my second year at Montessori By The Sea begins, I am truly excited to not only be co-teaching in the LEU classroom but to also be teaching Visual Art for Lower Elementary. This dual role deftly brings together two passions: Montessori education and art. Montessori’s emphasis on sparking the imagination and on seizing the teachable moment resonates deeply with me as a teacher and an artist. December 2012 will mark my tenth year of teaching; I completed my Lower Elementary training at Montessori Teachers’ College in Toronto and hold a Master of Arts in Communication Arts. Prior to education, I worked in the fields of advertising and graphic design, and continue to practise as an illustrator and writer. Ms. Sarah and I both look forward to a year of inspired learning and imagination at MBTS!
