Shopping Day for Charity a Success!
Thanks to the tremendous support of the students, parents and staff, the Lower Elementary “Shopping Day for Charity” was great fun, educational, and an all-around, feel-good experience. The students practiced their money maths, often helping each other with decisions and calculations. Both classrooms enjoyed sharing the activity and spending time together. The event raised $181, which was donated to the Red Cross along with two boxes of unsold items. Once again, our deepest appreciation for the parents who donated items and baked goods for us to sell and thanks to all parents for sending money with your child to spend! As always, these “practical life” activities give students a rich understanding of their world, how it works, and how they impact it. We do our best to bring these opportunities into our programme as often as possible and encourage parents to do the same outside of school.
We trust that everyone has shared a wonderful holiday break with family and friends and the students are looking forward to returning to school. In January, we will embark on our exploration of Asia. This is a huge continent and we will spend the entire month studying its uniqueness and richness, ending with how Asia is similar to and different from the Cayman Islands. Projects will be researched and prepared over the whole of Term 2 and we will culminate our studies with a shared luncheon comprised of Asian foods. For parents new to LED, you will quickly discover all parents are invited to this luncheon and this experience is not to be missed! The sampling of foods and sharing of time together is a fabulous and enriching activity everyone looks forward to every year.
