Mr. Andre Catches a New Wave
The Upper Elementary children and parents came together this week to say a heartfelt goodbye to Upper Elementary teacher Mr. André, who will be embarking on an exciting new journey as he moves to Australia this month with his family.
During the annual holiday beach get-together at Spotts Beach, the Upper Elementary children surprised Mr. André with the loving rendition of a special song they had written and rehearsed for him, sung to the melody of “Three Little Birds” by Bob Marley:
Mr. André,
How are you?
‘Cause Australia
Is gonna be alright.
Woke up this morning,
To the Caymanian sun.
Two lovely dogs,
By your doorstep,
Chasing iguanas,
Preferably green not blue.
This is our message to you.
Singin’ don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause Australia is gonna be alright.
Singing don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause Australia is gonna be alright.
You woke up this morning,
Decided to surf for fun,
A beautiful wave,
And the wind was off shore.
Surfing sweet waves,
You know you wanted more.
This is our message to you.
‘Cause Australia is gonna be alright.
Singin’ don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause Australia is gonna be alright.
We love you, Mr. André!
Mr. André spent six and half years working with the children and families of MBTS, as Upper Elementary teacher, animal advocate, and surfing guru. He has inspired and touched every child with whom he has worked, planting the seeds of respect for self, for others, and for the environment by living by these virtues. His selfless devotion to the students, the MBTS community, and the wider island community will be deeply missed.
We wish you and your family the best, Mr. André, as you begin the next chapter of your journey. Our hearts swell with the wisdom, kindness, and compassion you have shared with all of us. May the currents bring you exciting and wonderful new waves to ride!
