Unlocking the World with ICT

“Technology is just a tool. In terms of getting the kids working together and motivating them, the teacher is the most important.” – Bill Gates

ICT is simply the study of how technology allows us to interact and communicate with the world around us. From computers and robots, to film and phones, ICT is part of everything now. In class, we start by building a foundation of understanding: what technology is and how to use it.

From the Kindergarten and the early Elementary grades, we work on mouse and keyboard skills to form the building blocks of interaction. As we progress, we introduce robots so we can understand issuing commands and simple programming. We learn about Office and its respective programs. We investigate other communication forms as well and how they connect the world. In later grades, we expand and explore photo and video editing.

From Grade 1, we have been introducing concepts like pattern recognition and problem solving. In the later grades, we apply this to learning how to build an algorithm and writing a simple program. Overall, ICT is the study of technology and, now more than ever, its importance in everyday life.
