Our Precious Planet

Casa and Upper Elementary join forces to clean up the MBTS shoreline!

Our planet is an amazing place, but it needs our help to thrive. This is why every year, on April 22nd, we celebrate Earth Day all over the globe, and focus on preserving and protecting it from threats like pollution and deforestation. By taking part in meaningful, impactful activities like picking up litter and planting trees, we make our world a happier, healthier place to live.

Cleaning up the beach at MBTS.

The Casa One children have dedicated the whole month of April to learning all about how to keep our Earth green. We have learned about different biomes and ecosystems found around the world, have investigated the balance of an ecosystem in harmony, as well as what will happen when this balance is upset. We have explored the different ways pollution impacts our planet, and how it can be cleaned, prevented and minimized.

On Thursday, April 22nd, we were invited to join the Upper Elementary students in cleaning up the beach across the road from MBTS. The Casa children were excited to put on safety gloves and scan the shoreline, picking up any litter they could find. We were astonished to fill up three large garbage bags with debris and litter!

We have also explored and appreciated other parts of the globe this month, visiting the continent and country of Australia through lessons and work on our Culture shelf. The children have especially enjoyed learning about all of the unique and dangerous animals found ‘down under’, as well as the different types of food enjoyed by children in Australia. The children enjoyed making (and eating!) their own ‘Fairy Bread,’ which is a delicious treat comprised of bread with butter and sprinkles. The children did ask if they could have Fairy Bread every day for snack, but we think that perhaps once a year is good enough.

Cultivating a deep love for the environment as early as possible in our children will help ensure that future generations and all living things will have a a greener, healthier planet in which to live.

Australian fairy bread is especially delicious when shared with friends.
