Let the Children Lead the Way

“The education of even a small child, therefore, does not aim at preparing him for school, but for life.” – Dr. Maria Montessori

When the Toddlers came for their transition visits in Casa, our third-year Kindergarten and second-year children really enjoyed showing them around the classroom. They did an exceptional job being role models and giving them lessons. It’s so beautiful to see the Grace and Courtesy that the children have cultivated in the Montessori environment; it really reflects how seamless the transition is for the Casa One community.

As we are nearing the end of the school year, it has been lovely to see how harmonious the Casa One community is. Over the last two months, the children have been enthusiastically learning about the human body, how it works and how it stays healthy. Our new human organ model was a big success, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed being able to manipulate and place major internal organs back into their appropriate places. We have also been exploring the continent of Europe this month; its cultural richness was evident as we observed and listened to the children who represent or had visited countries in Europe share their knowledge and personal experiences with one another.

We have been delving into literacy and poems this month, and over the last two weeks we have been working on a colour poem book as an art project; the children absolutely loved working on it! Some of the children especially enjoyed presenting their careful, beautiful work during circle time.

We are beyond humbled that the efficacy and power of the Montessori materials and the children’s purposeful work with them were accurately reflected during the recent school inspection. Time and time again, these materials have been proven to be successful for each individual student. Words cannot express how much the golden “Aha!” moments that the children experience as they work with the materials make teaching so incredibly rewarding! These moments cannot happen without the dedication and focus of the children during the work cycle. They all deserve a pat on the back for all of their growth this year!

We would like to send off our third-year Kindergarten role models with a big farewell. They have worked incredibly hard over the school year and each and every one of them should be extremely proud of their personal accomplishments. We wish them the best in Lower Elementary this September.
