The Joys of Movement and Mentorship
As this school year comes to a close, we can reflect in gratitude on the many special moments MBTS has been able to share as a school community. During a time in which many schools around the world have had to make major adjustments, here in Cayman we’ve been blessed with the opportunity to learn and grow together, with minimal to no restrictions. Our school has truly made the most of this opportunity across all classrooms and programs, and P.E. is no exception!
Some of the most special moments this year in P.E. have arisen from collaboration between the younger and older MBTS students. Upper Elementary has been regularly working with the Toddlers during parts of their P.E. classes to foster leadership and model essential skills. Upper Elementary also worked with Casa and Lower Elementary students this year for Sports Day by organizing and leading station activities. The Grade 6 leaders stepped in as coaches at the TAG Rugby tournament for Grades 3, 4, and 5. It has been great to see students of all ages grow in confidence from this mentorship. Upper Elementary students are beginning to recognize the powerful impact their actions can have on younger students.
Lower and Upper Elementary students finished P.E. this year with our Movement Unit, which highlighted elements of gymnastics, tumbling, and dance. Students were able to engage their creative skills to choreograph tumbling routines in groups. It was a unit that inspired collective joy as students showcased their unique strengths and moved together in unison.
With laughter and smiles we danced and tumbled our way to the finish line of P.E. for the 2020-21 school year. It has been an absolute blast working with these students. They remind us not to take life too seriously and that some of the happiest moments can arise out of the simplest pleasures, like stumbling through a three-legged race or imagining that the floor is lava! With that, I would like to thank all of the children for an awesome year.
I wish you all a joyful summer and look forward to seeing everyone next school year!
