Musical Life at MBTS

Students have been welcomed back to musical life at Montessori by the Sea with a host of new projects and clubs.

Grade 5 and 6 students have been working on their ukulele projects that began in September. Reading music and playing solos have been the main focus of this month’s progress. They have also been given the opportunity along with grade 3’s and 4’s to consolidate these skills in Ukulele Club. Ukulele Club brings students of different grades together.

Grade 3 and 4 have been working on percussion this month. The students have taken to these new challenges well with a mixture of tuned and untuned. They have also been given the opportunity to further explore these skills in a mixed percussion club.

Grade 1 and 2 have had quite the start to the year too. Students have been exploring alternative instruments including body percussion, the links between speaking and rhythm, and even alternative percussion. The grade 2 students have especially enjoyed cup percussion as we take inspiration from Hollywood’s ‘Pitch Perfect’ and try to play our percussion pieces using cups.

All of our musical clubs aim towards a performance at the end of the term. Depending on the group, and opportunities available, this may be a live performance (such as school concerts/events, NCFA, etc.) It’s great to share the fun with friends, peers, and family!
