True Gifts in Casa

The Casa 1 classroom has been full of joy this holiday season!! We enjoyed utilizing our “MBTS Christmas Mailbox”, to write holiday cards to all our friends throughout the school. The children loved picking a special friend, writing their sweet notes, and then depositing them into the mailbox.

While we also have been celebrating everything “Christmas” with crafts, arts, and games, we have also been mindful to acknowledge just how lucky we are. We’ve been learning to recognize the difference between wants and basic human needs, and we’ve been discussing the reality that many people in the world are less fortunate than we are. While exploring this topic, we had many discussions about what we have to be thankful for and gave the students lots of opportunities to name all the different things they appreciated in their own lives.

Of course, the anticipation of opening gifts on Christmas morning is pretty epic for our Casa-aged kiddos, but our goal in this project was to help them realize what the true gifts in life are. We could tell after hearing their heart-warming and often hilarious answers (from “monster trucks” to “my family”), that our mission was accomplished!
