Welcome back everyone

“Physical education develops a pupil’s, physical competence, confidence and their ability to use these and perform in a wide range of activities. It promotes physical skillfulness, physical development and knowledge of the body in action. Physical education provides children with the opportunity to be creative, competitive and to face up to different challenges as individuals, in groups and in teams. It also promotes a positive attitude towards living an active healthy lifestyle.” Department for Education and Employment UK

Welcome back to a new and exciting school year. I am looking forward to working with you and your child to achieve our common goal of physical health and fitness. I cant wait to get started and begin to enjoy our beautiful astro turf field.

The first unit we will tackle is a favourite of all my students –  Games unit.
Each class will play tag , relay, team and co-operative games. All of these will help the children work on cardiovascular fitness and endurance in a fun way. It will help each child work on self motivation and ability to motivate others, teamwork,   and sportsmanship. The co-operative games will emphasize participation, challenge, and fun rather than defeating someone. The students will work with others to achieve a common goal. This unit also allows children to be creative and use their imagination to make up their own new games or find fun ways of adapting games they already know. These games will give the children the skills they need to play harmoniously with each other at playtime.

The Casa children will explore and develop their space awareness, locomotor, non-locomotor and manipulative skills through fun exciting games.

I place a huge emphasis in sportsmanship and fair play in my class, they are vital life skills for all sports and activities at all age levels. Each child will be taught to respect themselves and others in all forms of play and to follow rules correctly. Children learn the basics of sportsmanship from all the adults in their lives. Children who see adults behaving in a sportsmanlike way gradually come to understand that the real winners in sports are those who know how to persevere and to behave with dignity — whether they win or lose a game

As we know Cayman is very hot especially this time of year but we will be using extra caution when exercising in the heat. We will have regular ‘cooling down’ breaks in the shade and many opportunities to drink water. I would like to remind all students to have their trainers, sun hat, sun screen, and water bottle for every PE lesson. Every child must have their hair tied securely back from their face. Jewelry is not to be worn for physical education. This will help everyone participate in a safe and productive physical education class.

Never mind what others do; do better than yourself, beat your own record from day to day, and you are a success.” – William J. H. Boetcker
