Toddler Program

Children who are between the ages of 21 months and 3 years old are eligible to attend the Toddler Program at Montessori By The Sea. Currently, MBTS has one Toddler classroom with sixteen children and three Montessori-trained teachers.

While our Toddler Program is currently full for the 2022-2023 school year, and waiting lists are in effect, we welcome and encourage families to book a tour and to contact Kourtni Jackson for admissions information and/or to be added to the Waiting List.

We have put great care and attention into creating a safe, warm and loving environment for curious minds and little hands. The learning space is perfectly sized and arranged for exploration and growth, and a student-teacher ratio of 5:1 ensures that every child receives individual attention. Montessori-trained Toddler teachers gently guide and engage up to fifteen young learners as they explore stimulating materials and tasks in the environment. Toilet-training is a part of the program, and child-sized toilet facilities and equipment are integrated into the Toddler environment.

The full-day program runs from 8:00 to 3:00 pm, and the half-day program runs from 8:00 to 12:00 pm. A nutritious snack is prepared and served daily, and children who are in the full-day program have lunch and have an afternoon rest period. Each day brings routines and activities that purposefully help the child develop cognitively, physically, emotionally and socially. Children actively complete sensory work and practical tasks that develop motor skills, language, coordination and cognition. Positive social interaction is cultivated through play and the practice of grace and courtesy, and gross motor skills are strengthened through daily outdoor play in a secure and stimulating Toddler play area.

The development of the whole child is critical to early education, and the arts and creative expression are actively integrated into the Toddler program. Our littlest learners also engage in weekly Music, Physical Education, and Spanish classes that help strengthen their rhythm and movement and give them exposure to the Spanish language through songs.

During the summer, a Toddler Summer Camp may be available and is open to all toddlers who are enrolled at MBTS. Please visit the Summer Camp page in the Spring Term for updated information about the upcoming Summer Camp programs at MBTS.
